Flintr vs Claude Code

Claude Code is an agent: you describe a change and it works through your repository, in the terminal or inside your IDE. Flintr is an editor with Tab, inline edits and agents built in. Plenty of people use both, so this page is about what each is for.

The short answer

Choose Claude Code if you work mostly with Claude models and like handing over whole tasks from the terminal, paid for by a Claude plan you may already have. Choose Flintr if you want an editor with Tab completions and agents, a choice of model for each task, and usage counted in dollars instead of session limits.

Choose Flintr if

  • You want Tab completions and inline edits as you type, not only an agent
  • You pick models by task: Claude for one, GPT, Gemini or an open-weight model for another
  • You'd rather have a monthly dollar amount than session and weekly limits
  • You want the cost of each request in front of you, with a hard monthly cap

Choose Claude Code if

  • You need something you can use today. Flintr is still in development
  • You already pay for Claude Pro or Max, which include Claude Code at no extra cost
  • You prefer the terminal and like handing over whole tasks
  • You only use Claude models and want Anthropic's own agent for them

Worth knowing

Claude Code in October 2026.

An editor and an agent

Claude Code runs in the terminal, in VS Code and its forks, in JetBrains IDEs, and on desktop and web. It works with your editor rather than replacing it. Flintr is the editor, with an agent built in.

Session limits or dollars

Claude plans limit usage per five-hour session and per week, shared between Claude chats and Claude Code, and how far that goes depends on the model and the task. Flintr plans include a fixed dollar amount each month, at each provider's list price.

Use them together

Claude Code's CLI runs in any terminal, including Flintr's. Keep it for long delegated tasks and use Flintr for everyday editing.

FAQ

Flintr vs Claude Code, answered.

Is Claude Code included in Claude Pro?

Yes. Claude Code is included in Claude Pro ($20 a month, or $17 a month billed yearly) and Max ($100 for five times Pro's usage, $200 for twenty times). It counts towards the same limits as your Claude chats.

Can I use Claude models in Flintr?

Yes. Claude models are on every paid plan, next to GPT, Gemini and open-weight models, and you can bring your own Anthropic API key.

Can I run Claude Code inside Flintr?

Yes, in the integrated terminal. Claude Code's CLI works in any terminal, so you can use it next to Flintr's own agent.

Which is cheaper?

If you already pay for Claude Pro or Max, Claude Code costs nothing extra. If you'd be paying only for coding, compare how often you hit Claude's session limits with what Flintr includes: $20 a month at list price on Pro, $70 on Pro+ and $400 on Ultra.

Your editor. Your models. Your bill.
