Flintr vs GitHub Copilot

Copilot works inside the editor you already use, and since 1 June 2026 every plan is billed in GitHub AI Credits. Flintr is a whole editor with usage counted in dollars. Here's an honest comparison, including where Copilot costs less.

The short answer

Choose GitHub Copilot if you want the lowest price, work in JetBrains or Visual Studio, or your company already buys Copilot seats. Choose Flintr if you want an editor built around agents, models like DeepSeek, Qwen and Llama next to Claude, GPT and Gemini, and several plans on one account with projects pinned to each.

Choose Flintr if

  • You want a whole editor designed around agents, not an assistant added to one
  • You want DeepSeek, Mistral, Qwen or Llama next to Claude, GPT and Gemini
  • You want several plans on one account, with each project pinned to the plan that pays for it
  • You want to choose what happens at your spend cap: fall back to fast models or pause premium requests
  • You'd rather your editor wasn't made by the company that hosts your code

Choose GitHub Copilot if

  • You need something you can use today. Flintr is still in development
  • You want the lowest price: Pro is $10, and Pro+ includes $70 of credits for $39
  • You work in JetBrains IDEs, Visual Studio or Xcode and don't want to change editors
  • Your organisation already buys Copilot Business or Enterprise seats
  • You rely on Copilot's GitHub features, like its cloud agent and pull request reviews

Worth knowing

GitHub Copilot in October 2026.

AI credits since June 2026

Every plan includes a monthly allowance of GitHub AI Credits at $0.01 each: 1,500 on Pro, 7,000 on Pro+ and 20,000 on Max. Part of each allowance is a flex allotment that GitHub says can change as model prices do.

List prices on both sides

Beyond the allowance, Copilot charges per-token rates that match the providers' list prices for the models we checked, such as Claude Sonnet 4.6 at $3 in and $15 out per million tokens. Flintr also charges list price, so the difference is in the plans, not the rates.

Code review uses Actions minutes

Copilot code review uses AI credits and GitHub Actions minutes, and its model is picked automatically, so the cost of a review varies.

FAQ

Flintr vs GitHub Copilot, answered.

Is GitHub Copilot cheaper than Flintr?

Usually, yes. Copilot Pro is $10 a month with $15 of AI credits, and Pro+ is $39 with $70. Flintr Pro is $20 with $20 of included usage, and Pro+ is $60 with $70. Flintr is for people who want an editor built around agents and per-project billing, not the lowest price.

What happens when I run out of included usage?

On Copilot, you buy more AI credits at the same per-token rates, within budgets you set. On Flintr, usage continues at list price up to your hard cap, and at the cap you choose whether it falls back to fast models or pauses premium requests.

Which models does each include?

Copilot's list covers models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft, xAI and Moonshot. Flintr adds DeepSeek, Mistral, Qwen and Llama. Both have an Auto option that picks a model for each request.

Does Flintr work with GitHub?

Yes. Git works as it does in VS Code, and GitHub extensions, such as the one for pull requests, install from Open VSX.

Can I bring my VS Code setup to Flintr?

Yes. flintr import --from vscode copies your extensions, settings, keybindings and snippets. Nothing in VS Code changes.
