Flintr vs Cursor

Cursor is now part of X. New customers buy The X Subscription, and existing Pro, Pro+ and Ultra plans keep working for the people who have them. Here's how Flintr compares, and when you should stay put.

The short answer

Choose Flintr if you want a plan whose included usage covers Claude, GPT, Gemini and open-weight models alike, with usage beyond it at list price. Stay on Cursor if you mostly use Grok, want an editor you can use today, or value the Grok and X benefits that come with its plans.

Choose Flintr if

  • You use Claude, GPT or Gemini and want your plan's included usage to cover them
  • You want usage beyond your plan billed at the provider's list price, with the cost shown on every request
  • You want a hard spend cap that falls back to fast models instead of a surprise bill
  • You'd like model neutrality and list-price billing written into the company's bylaws
  • You want to keep your Cursor setup, rules and chat history without rebuilding anything

Choose Cursor if

  • You need something you can use today. Flintr is still in development
  • You mostly use Grok or Composer, which Cursor's plans include
  • You want Grok, Grok Bot and X Premium in the same subscription
  • You're on a legacy Pro, Pro+ or Ultra plan and happy with it. It keeps working until you switch

Worth knowing

Cursor in October 2026.

The X Subscription

Since Cursor became part of X, new customers choose Plus ($8), Premium ($30), Super ($100) or Ultra ($200). Each includes a weekly pool shared between Cursor, Grok Bot and the Grok apps.

Included usage is for Grok and Cursor models

The pool covers Grok 4.7, 4.6 and 4.5 and Composer 2.5. Claude, GPT and Gemini are available from Premium up and billed separately, at API list price, from prepaid credit. Plus only offers Grok models.

Legacy plans keep working

Pro ($20), Pro+ ($60) and Ultra ($200) still include one pool for Cursor models and one for other providers, but only for people who already have them. Moving to The X Subscription is optional and can't be undone.

FAQ

Flintr vs Cursor, answered.

Is Flintr a fork of Cursor?

No. Both are built on Code OSS, the open-source base of VS Code, but Flintr is developed independently and shares no code with Cursor.

Is Flintr cheaper than Cursor?

It depends on the models you use. Cursor's Plus plan is $8 and Premium is $30, but their included usage only covers Grok and Cursor's own models, and Claude, GPT and Gemini are billed on top. Flintr Pro is $20 with $20 of usage on any model, Pro+ is $60 with $70 and Ultra is $200 with $400. If you mostly use Grok, Cursor's new plans will usually cost less.

I'm on a legacy Cursor Pro plan. What changes?

Nothing, unless you switch. Legacy Pro, Pro+ and Ultra plans keep both usage pools until you change or cancel them, and moving to The X Subscription can't be undone. Flintr's Pro, Pro+ and Ultra work like the legacy plans: one monthly amount of included usage that covers every model.

Does Tab completion work the same way?

Flintr Tab predicts multi-line edits and your next cursor position, like Cursor Tab. It's unlimited on every paid plan.

Can I use both editors at the same time?

Yes. The import only reads your Cursor profile and never changes it, so you can run both side by side while you decide.

What happens to my Cursor subscription?

Nothing, until you cancel it yourself. Flintr doesn't touch your Cursor account.

Your editor. Your models. Your bill.
