Flintr vs Windsurf, now Devin Desktop
On 2 June 2026 Cognition renamed Windsurf to Devin Desktop. The editor is still there, but the app now opens on an Agent Command Center, and since March its plans use daily and weekly quotas instead of credits. Here's how Flintr compares.
The short answer
Choose Flintr if you want an editor-first app with a monthly dollar amount of usage that covers every model, and usage beyond it at list price. Choose Devin Desktop if you want to run Cognition's Devin agents, locally and in the cloud, from one board, in a product you can use today.
Choose Flintr if
- You want the app to open on your code, with agents alongside it rather than in front
- You'd rather see a monthly dollar amount than daily and weekly quotas that vary by model
- You want usage beyond your plan at list price, with the cost shown on every request
- You want several plans on one account, with each project pinned to the plan that pays for it
- You'd like independence and list-price billing written into the company's bylaws
Choose Devin Desktop if
- You need something you can use today. Flintr is still in development
- You want Devin's cloud agent, CLI and code review from the same company as your editor
- You like managing local and cloud agents on a Kanban board
- You want to pay for GPT usage with your ChatGPT plan, which Devin supports

Worth knowing
Devin Desktop in October 2026.
Windsurf is now Devin Desktop
The rename arrived as a regular update in June 2026. Settings, extensions and workflows carried over, and Cascade was replaced by Devin Local.
Quotas instead of credits
Since 19 March 2026, paid plans include daily and weekly allowances that refresh on their own, and Max has a larger weekly one. How far they go depends on the model you use.
Extra usage at API pricing
Past the quota, prepaid on-demand credits are used at API pricing. They roll over and can refill automatically.
FAQ
Flintr vs Windsurf, answered.
Is Windsurf still available?
Yes, as Devin Desktop. Cognition renamed it on 2 June 2026 and shipped the change as a regular update, so existing users kept their plans, settings and extensions.
Can I import my Windsurf or Devin Desktop setup?
Yes. flintr import --from windsurf converts rules in .windsurf/rules and legacy .windsurfrules files to .flintr/rules, and brings across MCP servers, settings and extensions. The importer ships with the private beta.
How do the plans compare on price?
Both start at $20 a month. Devin Desktop's Pro includes daily and weekly quotas, and Flintr Pro includes $20 of usage on any model each month. At the top, Devin Desktop's Max is $200 with a larger weekly quota and Flintr Ultra is $200 with $400 of usage. Beyond what's included, both charge API prices.
Does Devin Desktop still have an editor?
Yes. The Agent Command Center is the default view, and the full editor, with your extensions, keybindings and language servers, is a click away.
Can I use both?
Yes. The import only reads your profile, so both apps keep working side by side.
